Foreword
The news of yesterday is the history of today. 26 stories of the “Dust-laden Past” are all from the old newspapers 70 years ago.
At that time, newspapers and magazines in Shanghai focused on Jewish refugees invariably. Some magazines serialized the stories of the Jews in Shanghai for 9 months. Flipping open Shun Pao, the mainstream media of old Shanghai, with a panorama view from 1937 to 1946, we can get to know the history and stories about Jewish refugees in Shanghai in those years.
Jews established various newspapers, including Israel’s Messenger, Shanghai Jewish Chronicle and Die Gelbe Post. The chief editor of Die Gelbe Post was one of Freud’s disciples, and his methods of running newspapers as well as the remaining 1,000 pages of newspapers are of great value of learning even today.
Rickshaw Website, the communication platform for Jewish refugees, was full of pictures and stories that bear the marks of those days of suffering. And the dust-laden Hewu Comic of Ghoya is still accusing the outrageousness and ruthlessness of the Japanese army.
Stories in old newspapers and pictures, despite a briefness nature, are closer to the truth.
