在英语写作教学中，学生从教师那里获得的主要的指导就是多运用丰富的词汇和句型，以使文章生动、富有文采。然而考试时，很多学生仍然无法在有限时间内想出好词佳句，致使语言匮乏，写作成绩不理想。其实，面对很多写作题目，学生不是没有思想、无话可说，而是他们无法准确灵活地运用英语语言表达自己的想法。
为了帮助同学们短期内快速积累英语词汇和句式，提高表达能力，从容应对英语写作，编者历时一年有余，精心编写了这本《高中英语写作精细指导》。本书对写作中的常见话题进行分类，每类话题都编写了大量的精彩段落、高级句型和优秀范文。这些语言材料曾多次应用于课堂教学中，获得了教师们的高度评价，并帮助很多学生在考试中拿到了英语写作高分。
本书的具体特点如下:
(1) 按照书面表达中记叙文、议论文、说明文、应用文4种常见文体分类，每类文体再按话题分类（如记叙文包含节假日活动类、个人经历类等），不同话题又按主题分类（如个人经历类包含助人为乐、与人合作等）。这样系统的分类有利于厘清写作思路，也便于读者针对不同的主题，整理相关素材，从而举一反三，提高写作效率。
(2) 围绕每个主题要求涵盖的要点，本书有针对性地提供了大量意思相近的高级词汇、短语和句型，还对要点进行了合理的扩展。所有句型灵活使用了高中阶段需掌握的重要词汇以及托福、雅思考试中的常见词汇。学习和掌握这些句型和词汇，可以有效地帮助读者扩大词汇量，并积累不同主题所需的语言材料，为写作中及时想到好词好句和使表达更为生动、富有文采做好充分的铺垫。
(3) 所有的高级句型采用循序渐进的指导策略，从一般句式入手，逐步提高到使用分词、不定式、各种从句、强调句、被动语态等长句式，后通过关联词、过渡句的使用，把所有要点组成符合写作要求的短文，便于读者边学、边练、边模仿，全面提高和夯实语言运用的能力。
(4) 不同的词汇、句型和段落的运用和转换还为读者口头表达自己的见解和经历提供了丰富的语言素材，使口语表达更有条理，从而有效提高“说”的质量。
(5) 为了巩固学习效果，每章后的综合练习为读者提供了模拟题，题后所提供的所有范文均为满分佳作。
需要注意的是，读者在挑选并运用书中的高级句型、段落时，也需要针对自己写作的特定语境，对选用的语言材料做适当的修改（比如改变句子的主语，增加连接词、过渡句等），以使行文连贯流畅。读者也可以参考使用本书提供的连接词，以保证自己的写作自然通顺。另外，本书在某些句子中使用了“/” 和“()”，目的是为读者提供更多丰富的同义词或词组。如: “A teachers passion can ignite/arouse students intense enthusiasm”,“/”表示ignite和arouse都可以用在这个句子里，读者可任选其中一个词使用。又如: “Ill be up to my ears (in work)”，“()”表示既可以说“Ill be up to my ears”，也可以说“Ill be up to my ears in work”。
