Passage A is an expository and argumentative piece of writing which introduces PISA and the results of the latest test in 2016, and then argues for the validity of PISA.
The purpose of the passage is to inform the readers of the situation of the education in the countries and regions in which PISA tests the students in three subjects. Then the author analyses some factors influencing the performance in PISA such as culture, money, school education, teachers, poverty and ability etc. Finally, the author points out that PISA works and provides clues of practice in education, which should be valued.
