计算机专业英语是计算机及相关专业的一门专业基础课程，其主要任务是培养学生实际使用英语的能力。通过本课程的学习，学生应掌握一般计算机英语的日常用语，可以借助工具阅读计算机专业书籍，并能进行计算机专业英语资料的翻译，为更好地学习计算机专业知识打下坚实的基础。
计算机科学的迅猛发展使得它所包含的学科越来越庞杂，知识更新的速度也越来越快。因此，本书很难全面反映这一领域的基本框架和某些**发展。尽管如此，在选材时，我们按照“系统、新颖、实用”的原则，选取了计算机基础、计算机网络、因特网与电子商务、数据库、程序设计语言、信息安全、多媒体及计算机领域的新技术等内容。每章内容相对独立，并分成四节加以阐述。
本书有以下几个方面的特点。
（1）本书所包含的计算机专业知识丰富，涵盖了大部分计算机专业基础课和专业课的内容。
（2）介绍了必要的语法知识及专业文章的翻译方法及技巧。
（3）介绍了大量计算机专业常用术语。
（4）注重与计算机技术专业课的协调性。
（5）注重实践性和实用性。
（6）课文长度及选材难度适当。
（7）每节配有关键词、注释及大量习题。
（8）每章配有一篇阅读实践材料供学生阅读，以提高学生的阅读能力，并加大学生掌握的词汇量。
本书由温州职业技术学院的几位老师共同编写完成，其中，第3～5单元、第7～9单元由张雅洁编写，第1～2单元由田启明编写，第6、10、12单元由项道东编写，第11单元由翁正秋编写。
