前言
中国加入WTO,北京奥运会和上海世博会的成功举办,标志着中国更加开放,与外部世界的联系更加密切。建筑业是我国最早走出去的行业之一,建筑市场不断地在向国外拓展,国外公司也不断进入国内建筑市场,国际监理公司也因国际项目等原因介入国内工程项目的管理。建筑市场国际化离我们已不遥远。然而,我们却面临着巨大挑战:一方面,国外建筑企业进入国内市场,带来全新的管理模式,需要我们去适应;另一方面,国内建筑企业要进入国际市场,需要熟悉国外的管理方法、施工规范,需要懂外语的专业技术人员,但语言却成了相互沟通的最大障碍。语言与专业知识脱节十分突出,懂语言的不懂工程,懂工程的不懂语言,严重制约了建筑业的对外发展。为此,作者根据几年来的教学和工程实践精心编写了《建筑英语口语》这本教材,以期能有效提高建筑专业学生的英语口语水平,解决涉外建筑从业人员的语言障碍,为推进中国建筑行业的国际化进程作出贡献。
作为高职高专土建专业系列教材之一,《建筑英语口语》一书的编写遵循“实用为主,够用为度,以应用为目的”的指导原则,采用基于工作过程模块化的内容体系。全书共20个模块,内容涉及建筑专业和课程、建筑求职面试、建筑相关职业、建筑施工企业、建筑物类型、建筑材料、建筑机械、建筑图纸、建筑招投标、建筑合同、建筑法规、建筑试验、建筑测量、施工计划、施工检查、建筑安装、建筑装饰、建筑造价、工程索赔、工程验收等。每个模块又包括学习目标、专业词汇、情景对话、注释、必学句型、练习和补充材料7个部分。为方便读者学习和查阅,书后附有练习答案、情景对话问题答案及中文译文、词汇表和参考文献。

Marked by events of the entry of WTO, thesuccessful holding of Beijing Olympic Games and Shanghai World Expo,Chinaiscontacting with the outside world more closely. As one of the first industriesinChinato go abroad, the construction industry continually develops the overseasmarket. Meanwhile, more and more foreign companies have been entering thedomestic construction market; the international supervision companies begin tointervene domestic project management for some international projects. Theinternationalization of the construction market is not far away from us.However, we are faced with great challenges: on the one hand, by accessing intoChina’s market, the foreign construction enterprises will bring about some newmanagement modes, to which we have to adapt; on the other hand, to enter intothe international market, the domestic construction enterprises need to befamiliar with internationalized management methods and construction norms, needprofessional and technical personnel with a good command of foreign languages.In either of the above cases, the language is the greatest obstacle tocommunicate with each other. The gap of language and professional knowledge isvery outstanding. People, who speaks the foreign language well, cannotunderstand the engineering project; and people, who understands the engineeringproject well, cannot speak the foreign language. Therefore, based on years ofteaching and engineering practices, we have carefully authored the textbookOral English of Architecture, with the purpose of improving the spoken Englishof architectural students, solving the language barriers of the foreignconstruction practioners, and making contributions to the internalization ofChina’sconstruction industry.
As one of the series of higher vocationaltextbooks for architectural majors, the book is compiled under the guidance ofpracticality, and the content system is modularized on the basis ofconstruction process. The whole book consists of 20 modules, involvingarchitectural majors and courses, architectural job interview, architecturalworkers, construction enterprises, kinds of buildings, building materials,building machinery, architectural drawings, construction tendering,construction contract, construction laws and regulations, construction testing,construction surveys, construction plan, construction inspection, buildinginstallation, building decoration, building cost, claims and acceptance ofconstruction works. In each of these modules, there are seven parts, which arelearning objectives, special terms, situational conversations, notes, usefulsentences, exercises and supplementary materials. To further facilitate thereaders, appendixes of key to the exercises, answers to questions of thesituational conversations, the Chinese translation of the situationalconversations, glossary and references are attached in the end of the book.
The book can be used not only as the oral Englishtextbooks for architectural students of various types of secondary and highervocational as well as adult schools or colleges, but also as the selfstudy materials for constructors andmanagerial personnel in construction enterprises involving foreignness.
Due to the limits of the authors’ language leveland professional knowledge, as well as the lack of enough time, inadequaciesand even errors can hardly be avoided in this book. Therefore, it is hoped thatthe readers will kindly point out our errors, and here we the authors expressour thanks in anticipation.
