本书是“大美中国”书系中的一本。顾名思义,所谓“大美”,无外乎自然界和人类社会中,具有高度审美价值的客体、对象。它们可以是自然界中的山川河流,可以是花鸟虫鱼,也可能是风雨雷电、莺歌燕舞,更有可能是通过色彩、线条、声音、文字等人文艺术表现出来的各种艺术形式,如音乐、舞蹈、建筑、书法、绘画、雕塑、戏剧、电影等。而这些,都来源于东方古老的文明大国——中国。
浑浊而奔腾不息的黄河孕育了古老的华夏文明。中国人的先祖从母亲河走来,由部落壮大成为部落国家,从王国跨越到帝国,经历了漫长的封建时代。终,在近代的数次实践之后,中国走上了社会主义新中国的道路——在这漫长的历史中,有统一,也有分裂;有强盛,也有衰败。部落演进为国家的历史,中国经历了一千多年,封土建国的周朝,前后存在了八百多年,之后漫长的封建时期,历时两千余年才告结束——可中国的历史,却又不止于长:不仅长,还富于变化。中国五千多年的文明和国家史,从来不是一成不变的:在四千余年的建国史中,中国经历了约十五个朝代,六七十个政权交替更迭,更见证了不计其数的大小战争——战争和政权更替固然给人民带来了深重的灾难,却又在客观上催动着社会生活方方面面的变化,为中国展开了一幅波澜壮阔的历史图卷;从天文、历算到农耕器具的进步,从造纸、印刷到选官制度的变化、商业的繁荣,中华民族就这样一步步走来,走到今天。
习近平主席曾多次指出,“当今世界正经历百年未有之大变局”;正是在这样的时代机遇和文化背景下,中国外文局责成中国画报出版社推出了“大美中国”这个书系。本书系既是对中国自然、风物、人文的总结,也是为了向全世界关心中国、热爱中国、崇敬中国的人讲好中国故事。
但凡讲故事,必要有一个主题,有一个入口;我们选择向世界展现中国之美,这并非任意为之。人们总是喜欢美好的东西,这非但是中国人民的追求,也是全世界各国人民、各个民族的追求——不同文化对美的定义或许不同,可这追求却是一致的,而且古来有之。
中国之美既有历史的深邃厚重,又有地域的辽远广阔。大到富丽繁华的都市,小到鲜有问津的村镇,历史总会在这里那里,留下星星点点的痕迹。地域的辽阔又为中国之美赋予了不同的风格。我们既有高山大川,又有小桥流水;既有高屋广厦,又有陋室闲庭;既有“长河落日圆”的雄壮,又有“清泉石上流”的清丽……疆土有多少寸,美就有多少种,简直是说也说不尽的。以自然地理和城镇乡村为依托,我们更想展现一种人文的厚度,南北东西、平原山地、沿海内陆……不同地方的人,他们都在以什么样的方式生活着,他们的生活有何不同,而这种种生活又如何共同构成了中国的文化和民生的一部分。一言以蔽之,我们想要传达的,不是某种抽象的概念,不是简单的意象或标准化的符号,而是由真实、具体的细节所构成的鲜活的生活与生命。
本书系通过文图作品讲述中国故事,以画面语言为主,辅以文字的叙述、解释和说明,向读者传递更完善的印象和更系统的知识。
除了摄影作品,我们还将绘画艺术融入到书系当中。例如“手绘名物系列”,我们选择了通过水彩画的方式去讲述城市及其民俗的故事,这不仅构成了对城市的刻画,同时也是一次上好的艺术和美学教育。选择水彩画这一既为亚洲也为欧美所熟悉的艺术表现形式,去讲述城市这一为大多数人所熟悉的生活空间,这是由于我们想以此作为出发点,把中国故事讲好,走近听众,把故事讲得生动真实、可闻可感。
沿着这样的轨迹,我们希望把中国美的一面展示给世界,也想把中国的故事讲给全世界每一个喜欢她的人听。
