　　An avid angler, mountain biker, backpacker, and Nordic skier,
James was initially drawn to Idaho because of the state’s abundance
of outdoor sports. He moved there in 2000 to attend Boise State
University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in
communications/journalism. In his professional life, he worked as a
freelance contributor to the Idaho Statesman, Boise’s daily
newspaper, for which he wrote weekly restaurant reviews and
food-related and entertainment news, as well as produced travel
pieces for Treasure, the paper’s glossy lifestyle magazine.

Portland-based food, wine, and travel magazine, in which he has
